Vultures circle carrying endangered sunlight
on their backs
Filtering the morning haze into their
feathers amongst the parasitic thoughts
Flung from car windows in the ceasing embers
of cigarette butts from late night escapists
Their battered wings span the width of vacant
eyes in their hypnotic wheeling and diving
Bowing and raising gnarly heads as they turn
in an upswept pursuit of false cellular trees
Gazing towards the seductive nuclear ideal of
energy pumping waste in the scarred sky
Their bodies in flight stitching the open
wounds spilling a biologic language born, yet extinct, all at once
Stretching corpse still shadows along asphalt plains burning
skinned knees and shredded palms as they drag towards an uncertain fate
